Technical Support Reference

A connection was established,

but was not reliable...

  1. Check modem initialization strings. If you need a good string contact the vendor of your modem

  2. Make sure no FAX or PHONE software is set to automatically answer the phone.

  3. If you do not know how to disable these features consult the modem or

  4. program manual or contact the manufacturer.

a.  To disable the FAX or Phone software, follow these steps

  1. Restart
  2. Hold down the space bar.
  3. The “Extensions Manager” will appear. Scroll throughthe Extension Manager looking for anything that has “FAX” or “PHONE” in the name.

b.  Under file, Select “Find”

c.   In the Find dialog, type “TCP”

d.  See what is returned. If anything except “MacTCP or TCP/IP is returned,there might be a conflict.

 

 

e.  “MacTCP DNR” , and “MacTCP prep” might be found. These are

preferences files that will be reset if you trash them. After you throw them away, you must restart the Macintosh and set everything up again.

 

f.  If you find “TCPAC for _____(AOL, Eworld, etc.)”, it will conflict

                  if your are no longer on that service delete those files.

 

 

g.  If you are still on that sevrice an plan on to continue to use that

service you will need to copy these files to a floppy. Then you will need to note where those files were located on your hard drive so that they can be replaced later. Then remove them from your hard drive to be able to connect with TeleNet.

 

h.  Restart.
