Disk First Aid |
Disk First Aid is a small diagnostic tool that comes with the
Macintosh Operating System. It is an easy way to fix minor errors. |
To run Disk First Aid, you will need to start off of
the system software CD that came with the computer.
 |
- Insert the System Software, or Performa CD (from Apple) into the CD
drive.
- Open the Hard Drive, open the System Folder, and then the Control Panels.
- Open the Startup Disk Control Panel.
- Click one time on the System Software CD.
- Close all windows.
- Choose Restart from the Special Menu
- When the machine comes back up, make sure that the top icon is a CD, and
your Hard Disk is below it.
|
Now we need to actually check the disk for any
errors.
Normally, the CD will open to the first window. If not,
double click on the CD.
Now, we're looking for a Disk First Aid icon. If
you do no not see one immediatly in the first
window of the CD, look for a Utilities folder (it
might be under a Hard drive files folder).
Double Click on the Disk First Aid icon
Once Disk First Aid is open, there will be an icon
for the Hard Drive in the Disk First Aid Window.
Click one time on it.
Click the Verify button, and wait a few
seconds while it runs. If it returns The disk appears to be OK,
skip to the next step. If it returns "The disk
needs to be repaired", click one time on the Repair button.
After it runs again, it should return The disk
appears to be OK. If not, call Apple (800-SOS-APPL).
Quit Disk First Aid by choosing Quit from the File menu.
Close all of the windows that are open.
Open the Hard Drive, open the System Folder, and then the
Control Panels.
Open the Startup Disk Control Panel.
Click one time on your Hard Disk.
Choose Restart from the Special Menu
Immediately after the chime, eject the CD.
Once the computer is back up, you are done.
